At the workstation, or on the job, a brief time of stretching every day can help relieve stress, relax tense muscles and re-energize you.
On April 15th, 2013 Wachs implemented a stretch and flex program. The intent was to provide an opportunity for 3-5 minutes of stretch prior to shift in an effort to prevent strains/sprains and also start the work shift with a collective Team effort.
Stretching is important before exercising whether you are running, playing basketball, or any other strenuous activity. So why wouldn’t it be important before you start your work activities? Pre-shift stretching and warmup exercises reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries by reducing fatigue, improving muscular balance and posture, and improving muscle coordination. Many of the jobs we perform require us to work in less than ideal situations for our bodies. These situations can lead to injuries like strains, sprains, and dislocations.
Companies who have a stretch and flex program experienced a 61-percent-reduction in sprain or strain frequency and a 30-percent reduction in strain or sprain severity.
Flexible muscles may improve daily performance – everyday tasks like lifting and bending may become easier and less tiring. A quick few minutes at the start of the shift can make your whole day better!
