PROJECT SCOPE An estimated 1,900 cuts and 3,800 bevels were required on the ammonia plant pipe and vessel system in preparation for dismantling and removal from the refinery site.
Pipe sizes ranged from 2-1/2” to 42” O.D. with wall thicknesses up to 2-1/2”.
The pipe cutting process would have to be performed in a safe, systematic
method in accordance with the master work plan and time sensitive schedule.
THE WTS SOLUTION
To meet the stringent demands of the Pakven 600 dismantling project, WTS mobilized on-site supervision to coordinate with other site disciplines — the scheduling, safety, dismantling priority, cutting and prepping specification and final removal of the ammonia plant.
A team of WTS technicians completed approximately 1,900 cuts and 3,800 single and compound bevels with benchmark due dates over a six month period.
Wachs cold cutting and beveling machines were selected to dismantle the piping system which provided a safe alternative to torch cutting, plus produced a cost saving by not requiring additional pipe sectioning and welding when reassembly began. The project was completed on time and within the parameters of the master dismantling and erection plan. |
